Two items: Gardening working bee and Term 4 Fete

Gardening working bee: join us for a fun day of gardening at Darlington!

Since being awarded funding from the City of Sydney Council to start a garden in the school, the gardening subcommittee of the S&C has been hard at work on getting the ball (or dirt) rolling. We are launching the start of the gardening season with a working bee day and would love your help. So, whether you sport a green thumb or have never seen the inside of a compost bin, bring your energy and enthusiasm and let's get this green-party started!

Working bee day: 19 September '09 1pm-5pm.
Early dinner will be provided.

We plan on accomplishing the following at the working bee:

-- drilling the raised beds for drainage
-- placement of all raised beds
-- preparing/layering the beds for no-dig planting method
-- connecting hoses between the down pipe and tap to all the beds
-- planting the seedlings in the raised beds
-- pruning/chopping/composting existing unwanted weeds
-- possibly labeling equipment and sorting out the storage area
-- putting stakes in the natives up the back

To facilitate a smoothly run working bee day, we will have one after-school meeting before the working bee to organize and make preparations. We'd love your help if you are interested.

If you are interested and plan to come, please email Kyong Choe at:
kyongaroo@yahoo.com
Indicate in the subject heading with one of the following options:

-- yep, i'll come to the working bee day only! (A)
-- i can help to organize but i don't do dirt (B)
-- holy cow yes, count me in for both! (A+B)

TERM 4 FETE
The S and C hasn't run one since 2003 but on Saturday 31 October there will be another Darlington Fete. The giant slide, fairy floss, snow cones and other rides are booked. Next, we need to find volunteers to co-ordinate the stalls. If you think you'd like to co-ordinate a stall on that day Marianna Koulias or Lulu Mitchell would just LOVE to hear from you. Send them an email at darlo.parents@hotmail.com or give them a call (Marianna - 0433 953648, Lulu - 0402 717 138) and indicate what kind of stall you might like to run. For example, a cake stall, BBQ, books and CDs, jewelery, potted plants, arts and craft, games, cafe...

Back online

Hello everyone from the Darlington public school community.

I just wanted to apologise for the long silence here on the S&C website. For those who don't know, not long after the last S&C meeting recorded here I lost my son Telemachus in a tragic accident.
Since I had only just set up the website no one else had been organised to take it over, hence it being left inactive during my grief.

Last month I recommenced attending S&C meetings, though I have resigned as secretary. Our previous secretary Sarah Barker stepped in for the last months of last year and the beginning of this year, and as of last month's meeting Marijke Tombs and Sue Newsome are the new joint secretaries. I am going to keep updating the website but am no longer a member of the executive.

So from now on Darlington S&C will have an up to date website and a stable executive once more. Last month's minutes are now on this site, as are the dates for S&C meetings in the coming months. Over the next few weeks the S&C calendar of events will be added, and any other items that are available.

thanks for your patience,

Michael Texilake.
